4th Annual Alumni-Parent Hockey Game:
This year's game featured 25 skaters from New England and beyond, representing numerous decades of BA history. MVP of the game was goalie Gary Chester, a BA alumnus from the Class of 1975 and resident of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Chester, who sported a Wolverinesque goalie helmet complete with painted teeth, blocked every shot sent his way. There was some strong talent on the ice, and a fast-pace was set early on. The roster included a few current students, who enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of their BA alumni brethren.
After the game, some Wolver-kids had a few minutes to hit the ice, before everyone retired to Goldsmith Dining Hall for dinner. Raffle prizes included BA hockey bags and hockey shirts. The Olson family made out in the raffle, collecting two of the prizes. Following dinner, Joe Daley '77 took a few minutes to talk about the history of hockey at Bridgton Academy. Since the start of the hockey program at Bridgton, the rink has been in three different locations, in the lower parking lot next to the Administrative Building, on the current site of the Humanities Center, and now adjacent to the Memorial Gym. Alumni were present who had skated at each rink, carrying memories of chicken-wire fences, shoveling the ice between periods, and cold early morning practices. It is no doubt that the Bridgton Ice Arena is a great asset for the Bridgton community and the Academy hockey program.
A special thank you to all who came out for the event this year, it's always a fun time. Thank you to Justin Ward, local business owner, who served as referee for the game. Next year's Alumni-Parent Hockey Game is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 5th. Please plan to come out and celebrate the 5th reunion of this great alumni gathering. See you on the ice!
