The intramural program plays a vital role in enhancing student life and school spirit at Bridgton Academy. While less structured than our athletic teams, the intramural program emphasizes life-long sports, personal development, an appreciation of our natural surroundings, and just plain fun.
Our weight and fitness rooms, with an assortment of machines and free weights, are designed for the novice to the most serious, as well as being an integral part of off-season or post-season training programs for the Academy's interscholastic teams. The Outing Club has had a long-standing tradition for providing a wide variety of activities, including hikes, canoeing, and white water rafting in some of the northern New England's most scenic locations.
September and October are perfect months for hiking or mountain biking in the Maine woods, or canoeing on nearby Long Lake. Golf at the Bridgton Highlands Country Club or tennis on one of our newly-resurfaced courts is a perfect way to spend a long Wednesday afternoon after classes, and the Annual Dorm Wars Dodgeball Classic is a highlight of the fall season also.
Maine winters provide a scenic backdrop for a host of intramural and recreational activities. A season's pass, available at no cost to Bridgton Academy students, and shuttle van service to the Shawnee Peak ski area at nearby Pleasant Mountain can be your ticket for skiing or snowboarding all winter. Or try your hand at snowshoeing or cross-country skiing right here on campus or on nearby trails. Activity heats up when Dorm Wars Basketball begins in late November. This winter tradition pits dorm against dorm, and ends with its own version of "March Madness," including an all-star game against the faculty. Bridgton Ice Arena is available for hockey and recreational skating also.
Although Spring is our shortest season, we have time to play Dorm Wars Softball, which culminates with a double-header against the faculty. The Corey Smith 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is a spring classic with the Final Four squaring off on the day before graduation. |
