On the weekend of June 6th-8th, 2008, the Bridgton Academy community gathered to commemorate our 200th year. This Bicentennial year has been, and will continue to be, a time of reflection and celebration of the significant accomplishments of our school.

The Bicentennial Weekend kicked off with the annual Fuller-Avery Alumni Golf Classic, held in honor of past faculty Mike Fuller '82 and Doug Avery. Despite rainy conditions, over eighty golfers turned out for the event. Head football coach Rick Marcella was on hand to offer his renowned Marcella Mulligan's, along with help from Gina Fuller. A hearty dinner greeted golfers and reunion guests alike later that evening in the Bridgton Ice Arena. Our special thanks go out to both Gina Fuller and Nancy Avery for their support of this event in honor of two men who impacted the lives of so many.

The winners of the 2009 Fuller-Avery Alumni Golf Classic were:

Low Gross Low Net
Marc Duncan '83 Kerry Sheridan
Shaun Graham '98 Tom Sheridan
John Olson '97 Zach Fuller
Tim Stanwood '83 Ethan Schoenherr

On Saturday, June 7th, the sixth annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held at BIA. Longtime faculty member Tom Austin welcomed guests, and Hall of Fame member Al Robichaud '52 provided the Pledge of Allegiance. Hall of Fame Chairman, Matt Burgess '88, served as emcee for the event. The 2009 Hall of Fame Class included:

Bill Kearns '41
John Stabile '65
Tim Armour '67
John Kenney '71
Tom McCabe '72
Lt. Col. David Aumuller '80
Dan Egan '83
The Weeks Family (Gordon, Jill, Jeff '84, Scott '87, and Michael '90)
Freeman Whitney (posthumous inductee)

Inductees shared heartfelt stories and reflections on their time at BA, leaving guests inspired by their impressive achievements since leaving the Academy.

As the temperatures climbed in the afternoon, reunion attendees spent time touring campus, and visiting the school store. Some of the younger alumni participated in rag ball, along with faculty members Rick Marcella, Conor Sullivan, and Pat Shairs '02. Others ventured to Naples for a Bicentennial cruise on the Songo River Queen.

That evening, guests gathered in the Memorial Gym for class pictures and refreshments. A class parade by decade, led by Joe Daley '77, and Board of Trustees President, Kevin Hancock, ushered alumni into Bridgton Ice Arena where they were greeted by applause. Throughout dinner, segments of the Bridgton Academy Bicentennial DVD, created by Hall of Fame member Dan Egan '83, was shown on two large-screen televisions. Keynote speakers included U.S. Senator Susan Collins, retired Headmaster David Hursty, Kevin Hancock, and Bicentennial Chairman Rod McGarry '57.

Director of Development, Patrick Tevlin, presented awards to Betty Maxfield '30 (oldest alumna), and Ashley Lewis '03 (farthest travelled – from the UK). In a special ceremony, Tevlin and Hursty honored the 50th Reunion Class of 1958, with Bridgton Academy medallions. In addition, Maryann Morris, the widow of Al Harry '58, was also made an honorary member of the Class of 1958.

The youngest alumnus in attendance, Peter McEvoy '07, cut the cake, followed by dancing to live music performed by the Blue Willow Band. The evening was capped off with an amazing display of fireworks over the BA football field. Thank you to all who participated in our Bicentennial gala, surely an event to remember. The alumni of Bridgton Academy represent one of our greatest achievements. We all take pride in your history with Bridgton Academy and your participation as an alumnus. We look forward to seeing you and many others at our 2009 Reunion Weekend, scheduled for June 5th-7th.
